L The Herpes family of viruses is responsible for many different illnesses including chickenpox (Herpes zoster), other skin infections (Herpes simplex I and II). mononucleosis (Epstein-Barr virus), and a mono-like illness consisting of fatigue, fever, swollen lymph glands, pneumonia, and liver and spleen problems (cytomegalovirus). Herpes gladiatorum is the name for the skin infection caused by Herpes simplex I found in wrestlers and rugby players.
