As Americans commemorate Sept. 11, 2001, this week, they may not be aware that Sept. 11-17 has been designated by the U.S. Senate as National Civic Participation Week to encourage the promotion of programs and activities that foster civic involvement.
The League of Women Voters is a proud founding sponsor of National Civic Participation Week, and to highlight this locally, the League of Women Voters of Dane County (LWVDC) has planned a series of events. The week, tagged "Participate America," is meant to showcase American democracy and civic participation, honor the courageous spirit of the American people, and pay tribute to those lost on Sept. 11.
