Officers acted correctly
in shooting 2 pit bulls
Re ``Owners of shot dogs post their grief for all to see'' (news, Sept. 6):
It seems that the news media try to discredit the police every chance they get. Pit bulls are a dangerous breed of dogs and they are instinctive fighters.
Having been a police officer and a firearms trainer, I would have done the same thing that the Portsmouth officers did under the circumstances.
You don't get between large fighting dogs like pit bulls. The dog owners have a responsibility to keep their dogs secured properly, especially a breed known to attack and kill people and other animals.
