Domestic market
The price of caustic soda in some areas of China appeared soft at the end of March, 2002. The signs at first appeared in the Northeast and North of China. Come the second quarter, some downstream consumptive enterprises entered an off-season for demand. This accelerated the price decline of caustic soda, which in turn brought about the market slump that cannot be controlled. The price of PVC showed positive trends in the first quarter, whereby producers of chlor-alkali increased production. This meant that it would take painstaking effort in the second quarter to. keep caustic soda production going.
