Tight caustic soda supply, steady demand, and expectations of further tightening of the market has prompted several producers to announce another $50/ton price increase, effective immediately, or as contracts allow. Producers announced a $50/ton hike earlier this year, and about $20-$30/ton of that was implemented, bringing contract prices to $80-$100/ton fob.

Dow Chemical led the latest initiative on August 22, and Pioneer, OxyChem, Olin, and Vulcan Chemicals have followed. Pioneer, Olin, and OxyChem also announced increases of C$30-C$85/m.t. in Canada.
