SACRAMENTO, Calif. _ Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon on Friday released his 2001 tax returns, showing he paid $579,000 in state and federal taxes on income of nearly $2.5 million.
Simon's earnings were offest by nearly $1.1 million in reported losses in a variety of investments.
He was granted an extension on his 2001 taxes, and his campaign said he plans to file the returns Monday. He allowed reporters to review the paperwork Friday afternoon, but the campaign would not allow copies to leave his headquarters
