Lord have mercy on us.
The words are ancient. The music was Mozart's. On Sept. 11 I heard the words and music played and sung as never before. I'm a devoted Mozart lover, and the Requiem has been a part of my soul for many years. But this rendition at Safeco Field touched deeper than I thought possible.
More than 10,000 of us attended the Seattle Symphony and Chorale's performance of the Requiem two days ago. Nineteen hours earlier, the "Rolling Requiem" had its first performance in Auckland, New Zealand, to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. At 8:46 a.m. PDT Seattle ...
