Lean hogs made midwestern packer grids at $29.94-31.15/cwt. last Thursday, equivalent to a $22.61 live market hog. Terminal prices were 60.4% lower than year ago.
As for pork, bellies were $74.59/cwt. last Thursday, down $3 from the week before, down more than $30 from July and unchanged from the year before; hams were $30.30, down $3 from the week before, down more than $10 from July and down 55.8% from the year before, and loins were $60.89, down $8 from the week before, down more than $20 from July and down 32.2% from the year before.
The hog:corn ratio was 7.5 versus a 17-18 ratio that generally indicates breakeven production.
