Most Mount Prospect trustees agreed Tuesday that it isn't necessary right now to conduct full background checks on residents who want to volunteer their time on an advisory board or commission.
Several added, however, that making other changes to the existing appointment process - requiring appointees to sign an ethics pledge, for example - would be appropriate.
The background check idea was proposed by Trustee Timothy Corcoran, who said that conducting the checks would provide the village with an important safeguard against people who might intend to abuse their position on a board or commission.
