The big question in downtown Los Angeles convention and hospitality industry circles last week was this: What is Ohbayashi America going to do with land it owns next to the city Convention Center -- and when is it going to do it?

Time is of the essence. The city-owned Convention Center is undergoing a $390 million expansion, publicly financed, and slated for a spring 1992 re-opening.

A first-class hotel within walking distance of the new convention center is considered vital to its success -- yet there are no such accommodations ...
