Crystal Lake officials hope that newly adopted changes to the city's tree preservation ordinance will make it easier to follow and improve communication with builders and developers.
The ordinance requires those building on most commercial lots and residential lots 1 acre or larger and subdivided after July 2001 to fund a tree species inventory by a certified arborist as part of the building permit application process.
The amendments, approved Sept. 3 by the city council, create four categories of tree species and sets new guidelines for replacing trees removed or destroyed during construction. ...
