Sep. 15--Economic development in our city is at the crossroads.
Richmond, Columbia and Burke counties -- the three components of the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce -- appear ready to head in separate directions.
It started when Richmond County officials proposed creating a government-run, stand-alone economic development department. If the proposed office were to duplicate the Augusta Metro Chamber's industrial recruiting mission, there would be no reason for the county to continue contracting with the chamber.
