Rodger Mack, sculptor and longtime Syracuse University art professor, died Monday.
Mack, 63, battled cancer for several years, said his friend and SU colleague Ludwig Stein. He continued to work, fulfill commitments and be there for others despite his illness, Stein said.
"The guy was so weak at the end, with this cancer, but do you know that Friday night, he got up and went to an opening of students' work?" Stein said. "He attended the first three weeks of his classes, too."
That was typical of Mack's dedication to his work, and his commitment to students, colleagues and the community, Stein said.
