Sep. 19--Say hello to the new downtown.
With a 4-1 vote Tuesday night, the San Luis Obispo City Council set in motion a radical redevelopment project on two separate blocks. It has been billed as the most ambitious of its kind in the city in decades.
When the Copelands project is finished, one of the biggest downtown parking lots will be a terraced, tri-level building with upscale stores and restaurants. And a smaller private parking lot a block away will be a very tall parking garage.
