SAN JOSE _ It is time for San Francisco and New York to sell the stories of their cities as they try to become the United States' candidate for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
During the next six weeks the bid hopefuls will sharpen their images in preparation for the first weekend in November, when the U.S. Olympic Committee will pick its nominee. A 123-member board of directors will review bid summaries and listen to hourlong presentations before casting secret ballots Nov. 3.
The winner will then compete against such cities as London, Paris, Rome and Moscow for the Games. The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to pick its city in 2005.
