An extensive bill to revise the legalities on TV control, as well as TV and newspaper ownership in Italy, proposed by PM Silvio Belusconi, has been called 'a scandal' by opposition politicians.
If passed, the new laws would have widespread implications for Mr. Berlusconi's media empire. Crucially, of the three broadcast TV channels owned by Mediaset, the obligation to convert one to a satellite operation would be removed.
