CORVALLIS - The Oregon State-Fresno State football series, now 11 games long, began in 1981.
That year, the Beavers played very accommodating hosts to the Bulldogs, falling behind 28-0 in the season opener for OSU before rallying to upend Fresno State 31-28 in what was then the greatest comeback in NCAA football history.
That win, however, did little for then-OSU coach Joe Avezzano, who was in the second of his five seasons, finished 1-10 that year and ended his stay in Corvallis with an overall record of 6-47-2.
