State senators make bid to regulate intrastate air travel

If a group of state senators have their way, passengers flying between California cities could soon hear the announcement, "Welcome aboard Golden State Air, the official airline of the state of California."

Sen. Art Torres (D-Hollywood) has asked legislative analyst Elizabeth Hill to study the feasibility of creating a state-owned and operated airline that would offer low fares between California airports. The movie is one of several attempts by five state Senate Democrats to control skyrocketing airfares and to spur more competition between air carriers serving the state.
