Federal health officials in Fort Collins and Atlanta have found new evidence that West Nile virus may be transmitted through blood transfusions.
On Thursday, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials said they are investigating five cases of West Nile infection in blood transfusion recipients.
Preliminary test results show that one of the patients, a Mississippi woman, received blood from three infected donors, said Dr. Lyle Petersen of CDC's Fort Collins lab.
