When the last ever episode of The X Files is shown on Thursday, it will be the end of an astonishing era for Gillian Anderson. Although playing the FBI's sceptical paranormal investigator Agent Dana Scully has made her an international star and sex symbol, she has few regrets that the show is finishing.
