Wood as a primary building material for long-term care facilities is gaining momentum across the province. The ambiance it creates and the familiarity to the home environment that a wood culture emanates is a perfect fit for facilities such as St. Joseph's Villa, now under construction in the City of Greater Sudbury, says a local architect.
Familiarity with wood is the reason Jeff Perry, project architect with Perry & Perry Architects of Sudbury, chose to use wood for both structural elements and interior finishes for the long-term care facility.
