When Harold (Bud) Grant coached the Vikings, his teams earned a reputation for winning games based on pure, unadulterated luck.

The Vikings would throw a pass, have it tipped at the line of scrimmage and end up with a touchdown. An opposing receiver would run a flawless route, the quarterback would throw a perfect pass and the ball would slip through the wide-open receiver's hands into those of an out-of-position Viking. A Vikings kick would bounce over the crossbar, an opponent's kick would bounce back from the crossbar.

Through such favorable exploits Grant earned the nickname "Horseshoe Harry."
