Village Savings Bank hunts out opportunities in a down market
PORT CHESTER -- While many lenders are struggling with non-performing loan portfolios, one area savings bank has prospered by seizing opportunities presented by the region's troubled economy.
Village Financial Services Ltd., the holding company of Village Savings Bank of Port Chester, posted record second-quarter earnings, with net income soaring 85 percent and total assets rising 18 percent.
One of the reasons behind the savings bank's dramatic performance in an otherwise dismal market is the $21.3 million in capital it received from a December 1989 public offering.
