Q: What should a rep know about a firm before choosing it as his or her broker-dealer?
Bob Gioia, President: The most important thing to remember is that this business has been commoditized. Products and payouts are usually the same everywhere. There are only so many ways you can divide a dollar. There are exceptions, but they usually come with strings attached in the form of proprietary products that the broker-dealer expects you to sell.
