Growers thinking of planting Pinot noir might want to take a closer look at the numbers before placing an order for vines. On the other hand, if you were thinking of pulling out those beat up old Zinfandel vines that are giving you a ton an acre in a good year, you'd better read on.
On the surface, all appears well with Pinot noir. After all, Pinot noir sales were up by about 30% in 2001, helped enormously by mid- to large-sized producers getting in on the Pinot noir action.
