Prescription drugs are among the most common drugs abused by youth, second only to marijuana, says the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC), a component of the Justice Department and part of the intelligence community.
Among the most commonly abused prescription drugs are opioids or pain relievers, depressants and stimulants.
"Prescription drugs are readily available and can easily be obtained by teenagers who abuse these drugs to experience a variety of desired effects," NDIC says.
