Commercial printing firms that have digital presses report that 60% of their jobs are not variable-data in nature, says the TrendWatch Graphic Arts Installed Base/Market Share Benchmark Study, which was released this summer.
In fact, according to these printers, just one-fourth of all their work is variable-data, including the changing of color graphic images. This news may not be especially encouraging to proponents of variable-data printing. Moreover, TrendWatch Graphic Arts surveys in general have not shown that printers see an abundance of business opportunities in variable-data work.
