The 25th-anniversary conference of the National Women's Studies Association (NWSA) was held inappropriately enough in Las Vegas on June 13-16.1 don't generally like conference coverage that discusses the temperature and scenery, but gosh, it was 109 degrees Fahrenheit, and that's hard not to notice. The conference rooms--in a no-gambling hotel--were well air-conditioned. Conferences held in universities are much more intimate, and I wish that NWSA would get back to having them there, but universities now charge so much that they are becoming unaffordable. I heard that holding the meeting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, would have cost much more than the hotel did! ...
