A newspaperman's son born near Duluth and raised in Milwaukee has been appointed managing editor of the Star Tribune.
Scott Gillespie, assistant managing editor for local news at the newspaper for the past 2 1/2 years, was promoted to the position Wednesday as part of a number of changes in the newsroom operation.
He becomes the newsroom's top executive under Anders Gyllenhaal, who was named executive editor in May following the retirement of Tim McGuire.
