The area's largest hospital group is gearing up to take on Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois-the area's largest health insurer-in contract negotiations that will either increase insurance rates for employers or leave hundreds of thousands of Blue Cross members scrambling to find new doctors.
Advocate Health Care wants Blue Cross to boost reimbursement rates for physicians working in its 10 hospitals, arguing that the physicians have not received a reasonable share of the double-digit premium increases levied on employers in the last three years.
