The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has decided to move forward with a new advanced concept technology demonstration (ACTD) program to demonstrate the military utility of an unmanned airship that could be used in ballistic and cruise missile defense.
MDA, seeking interested contractors to participate in the ACTD in a Sept. 22 Federal Business Opportunity notice, said it intends to demonstrate the engineering feasibility and potential military utility of the airship. The system would be an untethered, gas-filled, solar-powered airship that can fly at 70,000 feet. The prototype airship would be capable of continuous flight for up to one month ...
