City wouldn't need business tax hike if it collected unpaid $27 million, group says
Mayor Bradley's proposed $27 million increase in Los Angeles business taxes is about the same amount of money that remains uncollected by the City Clerk's office, the Business Journal has learned.
"The city should make a stronger effort at compliance and collection of the taxes owed rather than raising taxes," fumed Jay Curtis, president of the Los Angeles Taxpayers Association and a candidate in the County Assessor's race.
