TAPIE REVEALS BACKERS, PRICE IN BID FOR ADIDAS
PARIS (FNS) - The French financier Bernard Tapie, who for a week fended off reports doubting the financial resources behind his bid for 80 percent of Adidas AG, finally disclosed his backing and terms on Monday.
Tapie, in a statement issued by his investment company Bernard Tapie Finance, said he had the support of two Japanese banks, two West German banks and four French banks to finance the purchase. Tapei said he would pay 1.6 billion francs ($289.1 million) to the four Dassler sisters in exchange for their 80 percent stake in the West Germany-based sports shoe and apparel company.
