Sep. 27--A building in Old Town envisioned as a heartland for the Portland area's creative services industries remains mostly empty one year after its opening. As a result, the Portland Development Commission is paying rent to the building owner of more than $90,000 a month for unused space.
Development commission and creative services industry leaders blame the recession, which has cut severely into employment in the technology and creative services sectors. The Creative Services Center at 222 N.W. Fifth Ave. opened last September when the dot-com industry was ...
