PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The local BAHRAIN PETROLEUM CO. (BAPCO) currently operates a refinery with an installed production capacity of 250,000 barrels per day (b/d) at Sitra. And, the company is currently gearing-up to undertake a major upgrade and expansion project at the site.
The main elements of the project would reportedly include the installation of a 40,000 b/d hydrocracker to enable the production of low-sulfur diesel. As things currently stand, an invitation to bid on the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project is tentatively scheduled to be issued some time around the end of the year 2002.
