The Sierra Club says U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard voted against the environment when he supported the confirmation of John Ashcroft as attorney general and voted against campaign-finance reform bills.

It used those votes in rating the Republican's environmental record.

Allard's campaign manager, Dick Wadhams, has repeatedly blasted the nation's foremost environmental group as ``a hypocritical front for the Democratic Party.''
