The Green Building Council of Australia is an endorsed member of the World Green Building Council. The non-profit group will be formally launched in October 2002. The council aims to encourage the use of green building practices and to create a sustainable property sector. Maria Atkinson, an ex-sustainable development manager at Bovis Lend Lease, is the council's executive director. Atkinson says the council wants to foster the development of green building rating systems, and to further industry knowledge. Australand and ING Real Estate are among the council's members.
