At first glance, the question seems rather innocent: "Would the idea of eliminating [membership] divisions make more sense to you if at the same time, we created three membership categories: CFP members, general members, and student members?" Yet with these words, written in an online FPA Caf discussion, executive director Janet McCallen raised the latent concerns of many of the 16,000 CFPs who make up the now 28,000-member Financial Planning Association: Will her organization renege on the deal that created it when the IAFP and the ICFP merged nearly three years ago?
