Pseudorabies update
New pseudorabies cases have been discovered in Pennsylvania since an initial outbreak was found in July.
The initial outbreak was on a 600-sow hog unit in Berks County (Feedstuffs, Aug. 5). Following the positive test there, the sow farm, three nursery sites and two finishing sites were depopulated.
Dr. Phil DeBok, a veterinarian with the state agriculture department, said follow-up testing in mid-August at 10 finishing sites that were initially negative (nurseries supplied 12 finishing sites) found three additional positives. Those three sites have also been depopulated.
