Companies claim water restrictions may hurt business
With a possible 10 percent cut in water use looming, several large companies in San Diego worry that business will wilt if the spigot is turned too tightly.
Local companies ranging from defense contractors to hospitals, from kelp extractors to electronics manufacturers, fear they might be forced to scale back production, services and even workforces to comply.
"If we had to cut our water consumption by 10 percent, that would probably equal out to losing 15 employees," said Fred Hamlin, general manager of California Linen & Industrial Supply, the city's 12th-thirstiest customer. "Mandatory cuts ...
