NEWHALL - Five big rigs collided on the northbound Golden State Freeway on Monday afternoon, spilling 30 gallons of diesel fuel, closing three lanes and backing up traffic into the San Fernando Valley, officials said.
The incident about 2 p.m. at Lyons Avenue happened after a big rig attempted to stop quickly when it came upon two other semitrailers stopped on the highway because of traffic, California Highway Patrol Officer Michelle Esposito said.
