BREAST cancer charities yesterday urged women to continue to be ``breast aware'' despite a new study which said checking for lumps did not cut the death rate.
A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute based on 266,064 factory workers in Shanghai found that teaching women selfexamination techniques did not reduce the numbers dying from breast cancer.
The findings confirm a study released in February this year by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which said it was unlikely that a self-examination programme would cut deaths.
