The record finally will be set straight for the thousands of schoolchildren and other visitors to the Colorado Capitol each year.
On Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving and the anniversary of the Sand Creek Massacre where 163 Arapaho and Cheyenne lost their lives in 1864, a plaque will be formally unveiled.
It will go on a planter beneath the statue of a Civil War veteran honoring the Coloradans who fought in the great conflict between the North and the South.
Among the battles listed there is Sand Creek - a mention that has stuck in the craw of legislators and others for years.
