WITH some relief, I read that the Education Department of the Windsor and Maidenhead Town Council 'does not have a conker policy as such'.
Even without one, it has behaved with such bone-headed stupidity that I dread to think to what depth of silliness it might have sunk had the councillors of Berkshire's most famous borough sat down and solemnly decided what their official position on conkers should be.
Until a suitable item appears on the agenda - 'conkers and their place in the management of a modern municipality' - all the council asks is that head teachers should 'carry out their own risk assessment' and then decide ...
