WASHINGTON-As most defendants in a unique and massive asbestos liability lawsuit in West Virginia settled out of the case last week on the eve of their trial, a U.S. Senate committee began considering tort reforms that could prevent similar litigation.
To maximize recoveries for claimants who are seriously ill, tort reform proponents want to limit recoveries to only claimants who meet certain medical criteria.
