Long before they became college teammates, roommates and close friends, Oregon volleyball freshmen Jodi Bell and Kelly Russell only knew of each other.
And what Russell knew of Bell wasn't good.
Bell was the setter across the net who struck fear in her opponents, which Russell also did during a year when they played on separate club volleyball teams in Portland.
"I was scared of her, everybody was scared of her, especially the younger players," Russell said of Bell. "She was just really intense."
