American Airlines Inc. will lay off more flight attendants than it previously planned as the airline industry's recovery prospects worsen, union and company officials said Friday.
The carrier needs to cut an additional 405 flight attendants on top of previously announced cuts set for Nov. 1. The carrier will offer new voluntary unpaid leaves that could lower the number of layoffs.
Of those, 330 would be American flight attendants and 75 from Trans World Airlines, which American purchased in January 2001, American spokesman Todd Burke said.
