Hamilton County prosecutors reluctantly agreed to a plea bargain that allowed triple murderer Robert Cordell to escape a potential date with death because Reading police admit they brought him a beer when he was being questioned.
"We just had a man slaughter three people, and I was going to solve this case," Reading Police Lt. Scott Snow, who interviewed Cordell April 2, said Thursday.
"I made the determination, `Let's get him a beer to see if it would loosen him up, deceive him.' Was it unorthodox? Yes. Was it illegal? No, not in our opinion."
