A new senior food management team has been appointed following the merger of two of the UK's biggest co-ops, United Norwest and Yorkshire, to form United Co-op.

The food group of the merged societies has a turnover of more than 700m [pounds sterling] and comprises nearly 500 stores in the north.

Tim Hurrell becomes deputy general manager--food group, and will take responsibility for trading and marketing, fresh foods, IT and acquisitions. He was formerly general manager of Yorkshire Co-op's food division and has worked for The Co-operative Group, Hillards and Asda.
