"Isabel," called Dad from the kitchen, "can you help us with the Shortie, please?"
Shortie! thought Isabel with a shiver of embarrassment as she trudged into the kitchen. What other family has a nickname for dessert? None! She was sure of it.
"Shortie," you see, was short for Strawberry Shortcake, the dessert that Isabel, her parents, and her younger brother had been eating every night for THREE YEARS!
